Hokan-ji Temple / 法観寺

Hokan-ji Temple was destroyed by fires, earthquakes and wars over the years. What reamins is the pagoda that stands at the top of Yasaka-dori. The pagoda was founded in 794 by the Emperor Kammu. The pagoda became a motif for artists, and inspired many famous works. The Pagoda is dedicated to the five great Nyorai, who are depicted in sculptures and murals inside the pagoda.
